A woman was found dead in a ditch on the side of Pineview Cemetery Road Thursday evening, according to a report filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Angela Kay Bonifay, 44, of 218 Ada Stroud Road, Seven Springs, was found by sheriff's deputies after a person driving by saw her sitting on the side of the road, said Maj. Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
"A driver came by and saw her sitting on the side of the road, rubbing her stomach," Effler said. "She was laid down in the ditch when the driver came back by."
Effler said no foul play is suspected in Ms. Bonifay's death, but the sheriff's office is waiting on the results from her autopsy.
The North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Raleigh performed the autopsy Friday, Effler said, and results will be forthcoming.
"There was no physical trauma to her body," Effler said.
The road where Ms. Bonifay was found dead is less than one mile away from her home, and runs parallel to Ada Stroud Road, but Effler said the sheriff's office does not know why she was on Pineview Cemetery Road.
