The Old Dobbs Genealogical Society will present a program on Saturday, July 16, on using DNA in genealogical research.
The meeting will be held at the Wayne County Public Library at 1001 E. Ash Street.
The speaker for the event will be David McCorkle. He will discuss the different types of DNA tests which can provide evidence of common ancestors and ethnic origins to help in your research.
The underlying science, research techniques, benefits and limitations of each type of test and testing company will be covered. Real examples will be provided, and time will be provided for participants who have taken these tests to review their results.
McCorkle has deep North Carolina roots, primarily in the Mecklenburg/Union County area. He manages the McCorkle and Traywick DNA projects at Family Tree DNA, and is the moderator for the DNA Ethnicity message board at ancestry.com.
