A 39-foot-long, state-of-the-art screening center on wheels will pull into town this week, offering free mammograms to eligible women.
The BelkGives on the Go mobile mammography center will make a stop at Belk stores in Goldsboro and Smithfield to provide the convenient screenings, said Turner Wood, manager of the Berkeley Mall store.
Women age 40 and over with no breast concerns, who have not had a mammogram in the past 12 months and have a primary care physician are invited to schedule an appointment, by calling 855-655-BMMC (2662).
The mobile unit will be in Goldsboro on Tuesday and Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. It will be in Smithfield, at Hudson Centre Pointe Plaza, on Friday, July 15, from 9:30 a.m. until 7 p.m.
All screening exams are performed by Charlotte Radiology's licensed, female mammography-certified technologists. A board-certified radiologist, specialized in breast imaging, will interpret the mammogram, with confidential results sent to the patient and her primary care physician.
