A Harris Teeter gas station and a new Dollar General store will be reviewed by the Goldsboro Planning Commission during its Monday night meeting.

The seven-pump gas station is proposed to locate along Wayne Memorial Drive, off U.S. 70 and next to the Waffle House. The 24-hour gas station will be accessible from Wayne Memorial Drive and within the Memorial Commons. The Memorial Commons entrance will be accessible from the rear of the Waffle House and alongside the Employment Security Commission.

Site plans for the business, which include adding a green metal canopy matching the nearby Harris Teeter grocery store, will be considered by the Planning Commission, which recommends decisions to the Goldsboro City Council.

Harris Teeter, acquired by the Kroger Co. in 2014, has started adding fuel centers in North Carolina, following the opening of its first gas station in South Carolina in 2015.

The Planning Commission will also review site plans for a 9,026-square-foot Dollar General store on Belfast Road, between Salem Church Road and Interstate 795. The property owner is interested in dividing the land into two or three parcels, which will need City Council approval before the property can be sold to the discount retail chain.

The Planning Commission will also consider site plans for a 33,420-square-foot Cherry Hospital maintenance facility, on West Ash Street between U.S. 117 and Old Smithfield Road. The building will provide space for maintenance administration and storage for maintenance equipment, medical records and patient belongings.

Camellia Smith is also seeking site plan approval for a funeral home, at 708 S. Slocumb St. The property includes the previously closed Rhodes Funeral Home.

Planning Commission decisions will be recommended to the City Council, which will consider the items during its July 18 meeting.

The Planning Commission will have a public hearing Monday in the Council Chambers of City Hall, at 7 p.m., and will move into the anteroom to review the site plan requests.
