The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday afternoon that left a Dudley man injured.
Quamain Leighton Earle, 22, was walking to his home from a convenience store in the area of South Running Deer Circle in Dudley when he was approached by two men.
"One of the men had a beard, and the other man was wearing a reflective traffic vest," said Capt. Richard Lewis with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
After the two men approached Earle, the conversation turned confrontational.
"The conversation was not going the way the suspects wanted it to," Lewis said. "One of the men produced a rifle, and the victim began to flee when he was shot in the shoulder."
Lewis said Earle was backpedaling away from the two suspects when one of the men shot him with a small-caliber rifle in his right shoulder.
He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
When Earle was interviewed in the hospital by detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, he told them the two white men fled the scene in a white van with green writing on its side.
"He told us also that the word 'Care' was written on the side, but he couldn't remember if it was lawn care or child care or what type of care it was," Lewis said.
Earle also told detectives the van had a phone number on the side of it, which began with a 919 area code. He could not recall the full phone number.
