A Goldsboro man was arrested Tuesday in connection to a suspicious fire at 710 N. Virginia St. that occurred on April 16.
Stephen Leon Williams, 34, of 602 W. Mulberry St. was arrested on charges of second-degree arson and placed under a $10,000 secured bond.
When the Goldsboro Fire Department responded to a suspicious fire call on April 16, a shed behind the residence located at 710 N. Virginia St. was engulfed in flames.
According to the fire report on the incident, the fire was suspicious because there was no electricity running to the shed but the outbuilding was heavily damaged by the fire when firefighters arrived on scene.
Maj. Anthony Carmon with the Investigations Division of the Goldsboro Police Department said no damage was done to the residence on the property.
"According to the initial report, the outbuilding sustained $1,500 worth of damage," Carmon said.
An investigation led by the Goldsboro Police Department led to Williams' arrest. Williams was on probation at the time of his arrest.
"His probation officer picked him up," Carmon said.
As of this morning, Williams had not posted bond and was confined in the Wayne County Jail.
Williams' first appearance in Wayne County court is today.
