A Goldsboro woman is unharmed after a bullet struck her vehicle as she drove down East Ash Street at 4:30 in the afternoon Monday.
According to a Goldsboro Police report, the shots were fired in the 700 block of East Ash Street, but an exact location has yet to be determined.
The victim stated she heard several shots and noticed a black car speeding away from the area. No other suspect information has been provided to police, making the shooting difficult to investigate, Maj. Anthony Carmon said.
"It's difficult. Sometimes we get citizens who will call in and will provide additional information. Sometimes in interviewing the victims we find that they had negative dealings with someone," Carmon said. "That didn't happen here."
A strip mall located within the 700 block of East Ash Street -- running the length of the block separating Lionel and Leslie streets along the south side of Ash -- is home to a number of businesses, including the Skylight Mini-mart, which has been home to gun violence in previous instances.
The rear parking lot of the Wayne County Health Department and other businesses are located along the north side of Ash Street in that same block.
Investigators said they have no reason to believe the victim was the intended target of the shooting.
Carmon stopped short of calling the shooting a random occurrence, but he said he does not believe there is any reason for citizens to worry.
"Nothing gave us the indication that this is anything to be concerned about. Citizens shouldn't have any concerns for their safety driving down Ash Street," he said.
