Officers return to their cars after questioning possible witnesses on the 400 block of N. Carolina Street Thursday after a man was shot in the leg.

A Goldsboro man is recovering today after being shot in the leg in the 400 block of North Carolina Street Thursday.

Officials with the Goldsboro Police Department say the assailant stole the victim's car to escape, but the incident is not being categorized as a carjacking.

"It didn't play out that way," Maj. Anthony Carmon said. "The car was just a means for the shooter to escape."

Police were called to the area for a report of subject having been shot at 9:07 a.m. Once on scene, officers discovered Kishmar Hall, 23, with a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to the police report, Hall was standing with a friend in front of a row of houses when an unknown black male shot him with a revolver. Hall was then able to run to a relative's home a few doors down to call for help, the report said.

After shooting Hall, the suspect jumped in a car Hall had borrowed from another friend and sped away.

Carmon said the stolen vehicle -- a 2013 Hyundai Elantra valued at $8,000 -- has since been recovered. The suspect, however, remains unidentified at this time.

None of the witnesses were able to provide a description of the shooter. Neither did Hall.

"He is not cooperating," Carmon said.

Hall was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released, according to the report.
