A twice-canceled public meeting to weigh in on the presidential search at Wayne Community College has been rescheduled for next week on the campus.
The town hall-style meeting is now set for Tuesday, March 8, at 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the Walnut Building.
Recent threats of inclement weather caused officials to cancel the two previously scheduled sessions, designed to allow residents to share the qualities they would like to see in the college's next president.
President Dr. Kay Albertson announced in November that she will retire Aug. 1. The board of trustees is working with a consulting group through the community college system in the search for her replacement.
In addition to hiring the N.C. Association of Community College Trustees President Search Services, the board has formed its own presidential search committee to focus on the effort.
Board Chairman Chris Martin said among the voices invited to be part of the discussion are members of the community the college serves.
"(The public is invited to) speak to the board regarding the traits and characteristics we should be looking for in a new president," she said. "Comments will be considered as a profile is developed for our presidential search committee and the board to use as it does its work."
To streamline the upcoming public meeting, the committee offered a few guidelines for comments made during the session.
While the board welcomes all who wish to speak, statements need to be as succinct as possible, with each speaker given three minutes to talk.
Moving forward, officials encouraged residents to concentrate on the future and address the traits they feel the college's next leader needs to possess.
Those unable to attend the meeting can still participate, by submitting comments in written. Statements should be limited to 300 words and can be addressed to Presidential Search Committee, c/o Tara Humphries, P.O. Box 8002, Goldsboro, NC 27533-8002 or e-mailed to tarah@waynecc.edu.
