A Goldsboro woman is in jail today, held under a more than half a million dollar secured bond on charges of selling opiates to airmen at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest this morning via a press release indicating a joint investigation with the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) began back in January.
Roberta Ann McClure, 29, 350 Peele Road, is charged with trafficking opiates by possession, sale and delivery, possession with intent to sell and deliver a controlled substance, selling and delivering a controlled substance and conspiracy to sell and deliver a controlled substance.
According to the press release, McClure is employed as a delivery driver for a food service of some kind. Officials are not yet releasing the name of her employer.
Sheriffs office officials did confirm McClure was allegedly selling illegal opiate-based pills to active duty airmen on base while making food deliveries.
McClure's arrest came after making one such food and drug delivery, the press release said.
"Additional charges are pending. The investigation is ongoing," Maj. Tom Effler said.
No U.S. Air Force service members have been charged at this point, Effler said.
"Not during this investigation, no," he said.
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base did not comment on the OSI portion of the investigation or potential charges against its airmen by press time.
