More information has been released about the suspect injured during a police chase early Tuesday morning, including the slew of charges against him.
Phillip Anthony Norris, 33, of Dudley, is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center under a combination of secured bonds totaling $147,000.
According to a Goldsboro Police Department press release, Norris is responsible for two break-ins and for damage to a guardrail along I-795 which he crashed into while trying to elude capture.
The first incident occurred late Monday night, when police were dispatched to the Speedway convenience store -- formerly a Wilco Hess station -- in response to a burglary alarm. Using security camera footage police were able to identify a suspect and vehicle.
At 1:47 a.m., Tuesday, police officers initiated a chase on North William Street near Fedelon Trail. The pursuit carried on all the way to Fremont where the suspect crashed along I-795 and then took off on foot.
Police officers caught up with the suspect, Norris, after he ran into some barbed wire. Due to his injuries, Norris was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Inside Norris' vehicle, officers found property from the Speedway and from another unidentified break-in. Further investigation revealed a break-in had occurred at a local cell phone store, Phone Case World, located at 107 W. Patetown Road.
According to the press release, Norris forced his way into the business, broke into an electronic gambling machine and also took a large wooden box filled with cash. The box was among the items found in his car after the crash, the release said.
"Some of the property was recovered," Maj. Anthony Carmon said. He said the property was returned to the businesses.
At least $1,475 in cash had been stolen, as well as six cell phones valued at $800 each, and $300 from the gambling machine, according to a police report.
Norris is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, injury to personal property, fleeing to elude arrest, speeding, reckless driving, driving while license revoked, resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, possession of a controlled substance in jail and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
A first appearance is scheduled for Norris in Wayne County District Court this afternoon.
