Members of Daniels Memorial United Methodist Church on East Ash Street stopped by the Goldsboro Police Department Wednesday afternoon to show their appreciation.
Becky Weisiger and members of her circle group packaged and delivered more than 100 candy bags for the officers and administrative personal at the police department.
"The idea is to show support for the law enforcement officers serving each and everyday, and to show our appreciation for all they do," Rev. Colby Leonard said.
Leonard and Mrs. Weisiger hand delivered the packages to interim Police Chief Michael West in the lobby of the police department. Members of the patrol division, investigations bureau, crime prevention and the warrants division also came out to receive the gift bags.
West said such outward showings of community support go a long way toward boosting the officers' morale.
"It helps the department by helping the officers morale. Letting them know there are people out their in the community that support us," he said.
Inside the bags, along with the candy were notes listing what was included and why.
For example, two of the candies included in each bag were bite size Pay Day bars and Hershey's kisses. The Hershey's were to represent the love officers show the community, and the Pay Day bars were added to represent the fact the officers do not do their job for the money.
Mrs. Weisiger said her church group next plans to package and deliver goodies to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office at a later date.
