A local man is in the Wayne County Jail under a $100,000 secured bond after leading officers on a chase through the city Friday night that ended when the man flipped his car into a ditch.
Emerson Baldwin, 63, of 207 Seymour Drive, is charged with felony fleeing to elude, misdemeanor reckless driving and felony assault with a deadly weapon on a government official.
Baldwin was initially pursued by Goldsboro police officers for failing to stop during a traffic stop.
During the pursuit, Baldwin allegedly drove head-on towards Officer Dakota Toms, forcing Toms to drive into a city resident's front yard at 1100 Edgerton St. to avoid being struck by the fleeing Baldwin.
When Baldwin aimed his 2002 Chevrolet Trail Blazer at Toms during the pursuit, he was traveling at 80 miles per hour, according to a police report filed on the incident.
The chase ended in the West Haven community when Baldwin flipped his car into a ditch.
Baldwin was issued 15 traffic citations on top of his other charges.
