Candidates file for office

A flurry of activity Tuesday during the first day of filing for the March 15 primary created a two-way race for the Democratic nomination for Wayne County Register of Deeds.
Judy Denning Harrison, who was appointed to the office in October following the retirement of Lois Mooring, filed, as did Constance Bryant Coram of Goldsboro, a former employee of the office.
Mrs. Harrison of the Grantham community is a 31-year veteran of the Register of Deeds office.
Candidates for seats on the Wayne County Board of Commissioners accounted for five of the 10 filings.
Filing were Republican incumbents Wayne Aycock of Pikeville, at-large; Ray Mayo of Pikeville, District 1; and Joe Gurley of Goldsboro, District 4.
Also filing were Democratic incumbents Ed Cromartie of Mount Olive, District 2, and John Bell of Goldsboro, District 3.
All seven seats on the board are up for election.
In the nonpartisan Wayne County Board of Education, Ven Faulk of Dudley filed for the at-large seat currently held by Eddie Radford.
Three seats are up on the on the Board of Education: Radford, at-large; Dwight Cannon, District 2; and Patricia Burden, District 3.
On the state level, Sen. Louis Pate of Mount Olive filed for re-election in District 7 and Rep. John Bell of Goldsboro filed for a second term in District 10. They are both Republicans.
The filing period will continue until noon on Monday, Dec. 21.
