Hill, 61, is a native of Lenoir County and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he earned Phi Beta Kappa academic honors. As a reporter he has covered almost every beat in the newsroom during his tenure at the newspaper.

"I am pleased to announce that Dennis Hill has been named as editor of The Goldsboro News-Argus and other company publications," said Publisher Hal Tanner III. "Dennis, an true newsman in every sense of the word, is well qualified to step into his new role. Over the last 30 years, he has successfully held just about every position in our newsroom, including, most recently, managing editor. As editor, he will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the newsroom, developing and implementing strategies to improve our role as the primary information source for the Goldsboro and Wayne County communities, and to encourage community participation in the newspaper. We are excited for Dennis and about him leading our news organization."

Hill has also worked for newspapers in Kinston, Fayetteville and Winston-Salem, winning an award from the North Carolina Press Association for sports feature writing.

He served as managing editor of The News-Argus for the past 10 years.
