The city of Goldsboro will mark the official opening of the finished Streetscape project Monday with a community celebration and ribbon-cutting.

Goldsboro officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday from 4-6 p.m. for the recently completed Center Street Streetscape project.

Festivities will begin on Center Street from Mulberry Street to Chestnut Street, with official comments being made at 4:30 p.m. Following the comments, the ribbon will be cut and Mayor Al King will serve as grand marshal of the event, which will include an impromptu parade.

Attendees will receive a "Do It Downtown" gift bag. Entertainment and activities will be held until 8 p.m., with many restaurants and businesses open late for visitors.

The project began in 2011 and includes the construction of three roundabouts, public art, a 12-foot granite water fountain, bike lanes, extra wide sidewalks, underground utilities, WiFi, music, game tables and more green space.
