Wayne County children can enjoy an afternoon tea with the Nutcracker this year.

It will take place Nov. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Terrace Room in downtown Goldsboro.

Sponsored by Goldsboro Ballet in advance of its performance of "The Nutcracker," the tea party is for both boys and girls ages 3 and older.

"The children can visit and have the tea party," ballet director Peggy Wingate said. "They can see different snippets from 'The Nutcracker.' Some of our dancers will be there to do that."

It will introduce the younger children to the characters in "The Nutcracker" in a fun, not-scary way, Wingate said.

There will be various craft stations set up for the children. At one station, the girls can take their American Girl doll for a styling session.

There will also be face painting. And the children can make a Christmas ornament to take home.

"We're going to take pictures and have them available online," Mrs. Wingate said.

Children attending are encouraged to dress up.

"It should be their Sunday best," Mrs. Wingate said. "Or if they have any nutcracker costumes that they might like to wear, they're welcome to do that, too.

"Last year, they came dressed very Christmasy to help get into the holiday spirit."

Mrs. Wingate hopes the tea party will be a time to come together before the holidays.

"I think it will be fun," she said.

Tickets are $15 for one parent and one child with an additional $10 for each additional child.
