A former Goldsboro man and his daughter were killed Friday when their plane crashed in the mountains of Tennessee.
William S. Gibbons Jr. and his daughter, Abbey, 15, of Bloomington, Ind., died in the crash near Johnson City.
A Federal Aviation Administration spokes-man said the plane was heading to Bloomington from Knoxville when it crashed late Friday into a mountain southwest of Johnson City.
The plane went down around 7:15 p.m. Traffic controllers at Tri-Cities Regional Airport lost contact with Gibbons, who was piloting the plane, at about 14,000 feet, records show. Authorities said it could take months to determine the reason for the accident.
Gibbons was a native of Goldsboro and was vice president of engineering at Cook Medical in Bloomington. His wife, Emily, is also a native of Goldsboro.
He was the son of Mary Jane Holtoner of Goldsboro and Stewart Gibbons of Tampa, Fla. He is survived by his wife and a son, Will.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at First Christian Church on Ash Street.
