Goldsboro City Clerk Melissa Corser was recently named as district director for District 4 of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks.

Mrs. Corser was selected by the NCAMC's board of directors after she applied for the position so she could become more involved in the organization.

"I served on the program and education committee (of the NCAMC) for a number of years and I just wanted to get more involved in the association," Mrs. Corser said. "Scott (Stevens) and the city council have always been very supportive of my involvement."

District 4 of the NCAMC consists of Green, Johnston, Lenoir, Pitt, Wayne and Wilson counties.

Duties of district directors, as specified by the NCAMC, consist of:

* Attending all board of directors and business meetings.

* Promoting membership in the association.

* Assisting the regional chairperson with regional schools of the NCAMC.

* Contacting all clerks within the district director's district and informing them of the association's functions and urging the clerks in the district to attend meetings.

* Promoting general goodwill among clerks within the district of the district director.

* Keep officers of the association informed of clerk-related news such as new appointments and retirements.

* Performing any and all duties assigned by the NCAMC's president.

Mrs. Corser attended her first meeting of the NCAMC on Sept. 11 to be brought up to speed on her role in the association, and said she is still learning the ins and outs of being a district director.

"I truly believe Goldsboro and our citizens benefit from having dedicated employees who seek continuing educational opportunities to keep abreast of any changes in their field and as we all face similar challenges, it also provides an excellent opportunity to network with clerks throughout the State to acquire contacts, information and helpful advice that can help improve our service to the Goldsboro community," Mrs. Corser said of her selection to be District 4 director.
