Pikeville checkpoint results in charges

PIKEVILLE -- A felony drug arrest along with 22 other charges were made during a late evening traffic enforcement checkpoint last Thursday in Pikeville.
Set up in the area of Main Street and Lisa Drive, the checkpoint was conducted between 9 and 11 p.m. and was a joint effort of Pikeville and Fremont police. The Highway Patrol also assisted.
Khiry Tayvon Reid, no age or address listed, was arrested by Fremont police and charged with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver, felony possession of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was placed under a $5,000 secured bond at the Wayne Count y Jail.
According to the police report, Reid did not have his driver's license and was told to pull over to the shoulder of the road. Officers said there was a "strong smell" of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle turned up four ounces of marijuana, prescription medication and drug paraphernalia.
Also resulting from the checkpoint were five charges of driving while license revoked; nine counts of no operator's license; three expired registrations; two expired inspections; one revoked registration; and two no liability insurance.
