With the opening of the district's two newest schools on Monday comes learning new traffic patterns, officials said this week.
Back to school typically signals a message for motorists to be aware that yellow school buses are hitting the roadways and bus drivers are learning new routes. Those dropping off students in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon, as well as anyone traveling in the vicinity during those times, should be aware that there will be more congestion than usual.
Added to the mix when Wayne County Public Schools resumes, there will be two brand new middle schools opening their doors -- Grantham and Spring Creek.
Officials announced plans to discuss the new traffic patterns in those areas during open house Wednesday. Maps were also were to be given out to parents.
Spring Creek Middle School, located at 3579 N.C. Highway 111 in Seven Springs, is located just down the road from Spring Creek High School. But instead of the Highway 111 side, drivers are asked to enter the campus from Park Road at the back of the school. Highway 111 will be considered the campus exit.
From the entrance, drivers will bear left and follow the arrows to the front of the school. Visitors may park in the lot located in front of the gym.
All visitors should enter the building through the main entrance.
The Grantham scenario is a bit different, with drivers allowed to enter and exit from Highway 13 South, while buses utilize the rear entrance of the campus. The physical address is 3151 Highway 13 South.
"Bus riders enter the school from Highway 13 South and the buses enter from the school from Loop Road," said Ken Derksen, director of communication services.
