North Carolina Coastal Pines has announced the appointment of Melissa Almodovar to the role of Program Director. Almodovar will be responsible for the new Girl Scout Mobile Program Vehicle and will be based at the Wilmington Service Center.
"We are pleased to welcome Melissa Almodovar to the program team where she will focus on bringing the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to all girls across our 41-council region," said Meridith Orr, program executive at Girl Scouts -- North Carolina Coastal Pines. "We know it can be challenging for many of our girls and troops in rural counties to access our programs and resources. Melissa is taking our leadership program on the road in order to serve Girl Scouts and more."
Almodovar is responsible for developing programs based on five educational modules that focus on STEM, leadership, outdoor and environmental education, healthy living and financial literacy. She has spent this summer delivering a healthy living program throughout the council's 41-county jurisdiction.
The Girl Scout Mobile Program Vehicle, affectionately nicknamed "Daisy" after Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low, is a fully functioning classroom on wheels. Equipped with two front seats for adult program facilitators, it is a tailored cargo van with counters, seats, a smart TV with a sound bar, 15 laptops, six AmScope microscopes and 15 DB Power microscopes, a multifunction printer, and Wi-Fi. In addition, the exterior of the vehicle has a fold-out awning which extends from the side of the vehicle allowing for program and badge activities to be conducted outside.
