MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive will join with the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce to welcome students to the Mount Olive community on Friday, Aug. 28.
Events will include an outdoor concert and movie on the lawn and are free and open to the public.
At 7 p.m. Majesty Rose will perform on the lawn in front of the Murphy Center.
A 23-year-old Goldsboro native, Ms. Rose made the national spotlight on season 13 of American Idol. While on the show, she performed songs from various artists such as Pharrell Williams, Idina Menzel, and Avicii.
Her dynamic voice led her all the way to the top 9. She is now working on writing and recording music of her own.
Following the concert, the movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron" will be shown on a big screen on the lawn in front of the Pope Wellness Center at 8:30 p.m.
"This is a great opportunity for students and community members to come together and build connections with each other," said Emily Schneider, director of student activities. "We hope the community will join us as we welcome everyone to campus and get our students excited about the new school year!"
