A Goldsboro man faces several charges in connection with a theft at a local school after leading police on a foot chase Friday.

The suspect is accused of stealing electrical saws from Dillard Academy Charter School, which is located on West Elm Street, overnight between Thursday and Friday.

Ralph Croom, 45, 309 Hemlock St., is charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, attempting to obtain property by false pretense, injury to personal property and resisting a public officer. He was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $22,500 secured bond.

"He got arrested on July 24," Maj. Anthony Carmon said.

Investigators tracked Croom after responding to a local pawn shop for a report of a person trying to sell stolen goods.

Although Croom had moved on by the time police arrived, the officers were able to identify him in the process. Later in the day Croom was spotted in the area of North George and East Elm streets. Officers responded and were able to subdue Croom after a brief chase.

None of the property was recovered and no one was injured in the apprehension of the suspect, Carmon said.
