The owner of a local convenience store is expected to be charged today by N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement with selling alcohol without a permit following a raid Monday.
ALE chief enforcement officer Joe Sadler said "approximately a van load" of alcohol has been removed from the business.
Ismail Quandeel, owner and operator of the Brookside Mart, located at 2000 S. Slocumb St., will be charged sometime today with possession of more than 80 liters of malt beverage and selling malt beverages without a permit, Sadler said.
"The reason I took it, his ABC permit has been revoked by the (N.C. Alcohol Control Board) commission. And he was still in possession of 80 liters of malt beverage," he said.
Among the alcohol items seized were several types of beer, wine and tequila mixer.
Sadler said the business, which sits on the fringes of one of Goldsboro's low-income housing communities, is a known drug hangout and experiences a high volume of crime.
"We've had several complaints of him selling to underage people," Sadler said.
Quandeel will not be placed in jail or given a bond. Sadler said Quandeel was cooperative and would receive a citation with a court date for his case to be heard.
"He will be charged and he will be given a court date of Sept. 9 in Wayne County District Court," Sadler said.
