The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has charged two men in connection with a pair of residential break-ins in July, both of which resulted in property theft.
One of the homes was under construction at the time and the suspects allegedly removed $1,500 in copper wiring.
David Gregory Kornegay, 52, 6006 Brightleaf Road, and Andrew Scott Becton, 29, 409 Charlie Braswell Road, are both charged with two counts each of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and felony possession of stolen goods. Both men were placed in the Wayne County Detention Center; Kornegay's bond is set at $15,000 and Becton's bond is set at $30,000 secured.
According to a press release issued by the sheriff's office, investigators looked into the copper theft reported at a residence in the western part of the county July 1 and identified Kornegay and Becton as suspects.
A second break-in -- also at a residence in the western part of the county -- was reported July 14. Property valued at $780 went missing from the residence and an investigation revealed Becton was involved, the release said.
Maj. Tom Effler confirmed Kornegay has been arrested multiple times already this year, at least once by the Goldsboro Police Department.
"He was arrested July 6 by GPD for possession of stolen goods, a Schedule I controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was charged again July 22 with possession of a controlled substance and back on June 4 he was charged with contempt of court. That's all this year," Effler said.
