Filing period will end Friday

Filing for municipal and sanitary district elections began Monday and will end Friday at noon.

Between Wednesday and Thursday, all of the members of the Fremont Town Board filed for re-election and include: Darron Flowers, mayor; Alvester Lewis, District 1; Leon Mooring, District 2; W.T. Smith, District 3; Harold Cuddington, District 4; Joyce C. Reid, District 5; and Annie R. Lewis, District 6.

In Goldsboro, District 1 Councilman Michael Headen filed on Friday.

Mount Olive Commissioner Ray Thompson filed on Thursday and faces opposition from newcomer Jerry L. Harper, who filed earlier in the week.

Also filing in Mount Olive was District 1 Commissioner Kenny Talton.

Four candidates for the Pikeville board filed Thursday and include: Commissioners Steve West, Robert Hooks and Charles Hooks III. Lyman G. Galloway filed for one of the two unexpired terms.

Filing for water districts were:

* Andy G. Hartley and David Jackson (incumbents) and Russell Lee Wiggins, Fork Township

* Danny Tillman, Walter Fred Bridgers, David Pittman and James S. Kirby (all incumbents), Northwestern Wayne

* Efton Sager and Kevin Jones, Southern Wayne

* David A. Bennett, Jimmy B. Cox, Daryll E. Overton, Ruby Gail Mincherw and Alan Lumpkin (all incumbents), Southwestern Wayne.

Filing earlier in the week for the Goldsboro City Council were:

* Douglas Allan Stuart, mayor

* Councilman Charles Williams, District 4, who has opposition for the position from Tondalayo Alicia Clark

* Council member Gene Aycock, District 6

* Council member Bill Broadaway, District 2.

Filings in Mount Olive were:

* Thomas Preston, District 3

* Commissioners Joe Scott, District 4

* Mayor Ray McDonald Sr.

Walnut Creek Councilman Greg Ricker has filed for re-election.

Offices up this year include:

* Goldsboro: Mayor Al King; Michael Headen, District 1; Bill Broadaway, District 2; William Goodman, District 3; Charles J. Williams Sr., District 4; Chuck Allen, District 5; and Gene Aycock, District 6.

* Mount Olive: Mayor Ray McDonald Sr.; Ray Thompson, at-large; Kenny Talton, District 1; Jerry Armstrong Sr., District 2; and Joe Scott, District 4. The District 3 seat has been vacant since February following the death of George Fulghum.

* Fremont: Mayor Darron Flowers; Alvester Lewis, District 1; Leon Mooring, District 2; W.T. Smith, District 3; Harold Cuddington, District 4; Joyce C. Reid, District 5; and Annie R. Lewis, District 6.

* Eureka: Three of five at-large board members, Malcolm Finlay, Billy Davis and Louis Massey; four-year terms.

* Pikeville: Of the five commissioner seats, two seats on the ballot will fill the unexpired terms which are the result of the death of Commissioner Al Greene and the resignation of former commissioner Todd Smith. The three remaining races are for seats whose four-year term expire in 2015 and will be on the ballot. Stephen A. West, Quinton R. "Jay" West (unexpired term), Charles Hooks and Robert Hooks; four-year terms.

* Seven Springs: Mayor Alan Cash (two-year term); three of five commissioners, Danny Carter, Karla Griffin and Steve Potter; four years terms.

* Walnut Creek: Two of four council members, Greg Ricker and David "Stoney" Sloan; four-year terms. Mayor Danny Jackson's four-year term is up also. However, the mayor is selected by the council.

The sanitary district elections are:

* Fork: Andy Hartley and David B. Jackson, who have both filed for re-election.

* Northwestern Wayne: David W. Pittman, Walter F. Bridgers, James S. Kirby, Billy Lynch Jr., and Danny K. Tillman.

* Southwestern Wayne: all five seats are up for election.

* Southern Wayne: three of four seats are up for election.
