A Goldsboro woman is charged today with driving while impaired after causing an accident on North Berkeley Boulevard Monday that nearly took her life.
Amanda Gail Freeman, 21, of 103 E. Parks Road, told Goldsboro police she took two Percocet -- a prescription pain killer that mixes acetaminophen and oxycodone -- 30 minutes before getting behind the wheel, according to the accident report.
At 7:45 p.m., Ms. Freeman's car crossed the center line while traveling north on North Berkeley Boulevard and crashed head-on into an oncoming vehicle at the intersection of South Drive.
The other driver suffered a stiff neck and refused EMS transport.
Ms. Freeman lay unresponsive. First-responders on scene believed initially they might be dealing with a fatality.
"They brought her back on the way to the hospital. She woke up," Goldsboro Fire Department Assistant Chief Frank Sasser said.
Goldsboro police and fire personnel blocked off the roadway and diverted traffic away from the intersection at North Berkeley Boulevard and East New Hope Road while officers investigated the crash.
Ms. Freeman is charged with DWI, driving left of center and failure to wear a seat belt.
