The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating a robbery and assault that took place at a North Claiborne Street residence at 7:50 p.m. Monday.
David Lee Coley, 60, told police he was sitting on his front porch when two men approached from behind his apartment and told him to "Give it up."
When Coley refused, the men beat him and took his wallet. One of the men might have had a gun, the report said.
Maj. Anthony Carmon said he was disturbed by the nature of the crime.
"I don't like that," he said.
The case has been turned over to an investigator, he added. He also said Coley was not seriously injured.
"He was roughed up a little bit, but he was not injured," Carmon said.
The suspects are described as two black men in their 20s wearing dark clothing. One of the men wore a shirt described on the report as "purple with flowers."
The men fled on foot toward Fairview Park, taking Coley's wallet which contained $130 and several financial and identification cards.
