Now that graduations are over and schools have been dismissed for the summer, Wayne County Public Schools reverts to its summer schedule -- a four-day workweek.

The annual summer flex schedule began this week and continues through Aug. 14, with staff following a 10-hour day four days a week. The entire district will be closed on Fridays.

Administrative offices on Royall Avenue will be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Hours at the district's 31 schools will vary, as well those of various departments. A complete schedule is posted on the district's website, www.waynecountyschools.org.

The two newest non-traditional high schools follow a different school calendar. Wayne Early/Middle College and Wayne School of Engineering will only be using the four-day week schedule from now through July 31.

The district began implementing the flex schedule in 2006 to cut some of the operation expenses during the summer months, officials said.

The district will also be closed an additional day, Thursday, July 2, in observance of the Fourth of July.
