One man has been caught and another is wanted in connection with a motor vehicle break-in reported on New Year's Day in Goldsboro.
According to a Goldsboro Police Department press release, the investigation has also led to charges in a separate vehicle break-in dated Jan. 20.
Kerron Akeal Howell, 20, 511 Daisy St. is charged with felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, larceny and two counts each of felony financial card theft, obtaining property by false pretense and possession of stolen goods.
Warrants for arrest for a second suspect, Deshawn Lamont Rowe, 22, 107 Colby Drive, Dudley, have been secured, according to the press release.
Investigators are waiting to charge Rowe with two counts of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle, two counts of felony financial card theft, four counts of obtaining property by false pretense and a single count each of larceny, felony possession of stolen goods and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
Among the items taken in the break-ins were a trench coat, a leather purse and several bank cards, which were then reported used in numerous fraudulent transactions. A laptop computer and a North Face brand bag also were reported stolen.
Maj. Anthony Carmon of the investigations division said the suspects left a paper trail for detectives to follow resulting in their identification.
"I don't know if there will be additional charges," Carmon said, acknowledging several unsolved motor vehicle break-ins in the city.
"I know (investigators) had a very lengthy discussion with them," he said.
Carmon advises citizens to keep their eyes and ears open and to report any suspicious activity.
"Be alert. If you hear a car alarm going off in the distance, call it in. Call 911," he said.
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Rowe is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255, or text tips to 919-222-4230. Callers can remain anonymous and tips leading to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
