GHS/Dillard alumni set to gather

Thousands of alumni of Dillard/Goldsboro High and Central/Eastern Wayne High will gather this weekend in Goldsboro to renew friendships and celebrate homecoming.
The annual reunions of the Dillard/Goldsboro High alumni association and the Central/Eastern Wayne alumni association start today and run through Sunday. Both events will be highlighted by parades on Saturday, along with lunches, banquets, dances and picnics.
Dillard/Goldsboro Alumni & Friends Inc., which has chapters in Atlanta, Goldsboro, New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., has traditionally attracted more than 10,000 former students from Dillard and Goldsboro high schools to participate in the events.
The alumni dance will be held tonight in the H.V. Brown Hall.
Saturday's activities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade. The route had to be changed due to construction in downtown Goldsboro. The parade will begin on Public Drive near Dillard Middle School, proceeding to South Slocumb Street, to East Elm Street, to Poplar Street, to Olivia Lane, to South Slocumb Street and back to Public Street. Parade entry forms can be picked up at the headquarters building on Poplar Street. A picnic will follow at noon on the campus of the alumni headquarters.
The "New School Dance" will be held on Saturday night at the H.V. Brown Hall. Tickets for this event are $20 and can be purchased prior to the event at Christ Made A Way Barber Shop, Headquarters Barber Shop and Primer Cuts.
Sunday will mark the 13th anniversary of the Sunday Worship Service. Minister Andre Elliot, a former scholarship recipient, will deliver the message at 11 a.m. in the H.V. Brown Hall. The campus will be open to all classes for their picnics after the service.
Meanwhile, alumni from Central and Eastern Wayne high schools will be carrying on with their activities.
Classes ending in 0 and 5 will be honored this year.
A banquet will be held tonight at Best Grove MB Church at 7 p.m. The guest speaker will be Dr. Matthew Edwards of Atlanta, Ga., a member of the Central High Class of 1965.
A dutch breakfast meeting will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Murray's restaurant. A parade will be held at noon in the Central Heights Community. The lineup will begin at 11 a.m. at Eastern Wayne Middle School.
The annual family picnic will be held at Eastern Wayne Middle School at 1 p.m. Dinner will be served from 2-3 p.m. Tickets are $15. There will be games and activities for all ages.
At 9 p.m. on Saturday the homecoming ball will be held at Murray's on New Hope Road.
On Sunday, the class will worship at Jackson Chapel Church in the Beston community at 11 a.m. The awards, recognition and scholarship program will be held at Woods Chapel UAFWB Church on Sunday at 5 p.m. The guest speaker will be Sheila Durham, a member of the Eastern Wayne Class of 1975. Scholarship recipients and retirees will be honored.
