A Goldsboro woman charged with stealing and forging checks and cashing them at various locations around the county is in custody today after Wayne County Sheriff's deputies found her camping in the woods off Overman Road.
Her boyfriend, wanted in a separate case, is still on the run.
Charley Lynn Wiggs, 25, 599 Overman Road, is charged with uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretense. She was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $9,000 secured bond.
Allen Duane Gore, 25, of the same address, has been identified in an investigation into a stolen ATV.
The ATV was reported stolen April 21. During the course of the investigation, it was found that Gore took the ATV to Hack Drive in Dudley and sold it.
A third person, Antonio Montrel Thompson, 35, 188 Hack Drive, was observed on video riding the stolen ATV. Thompson is charged with possession of stolen property and has been placed in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
Thompson, however, is refusing to cooperate.
"He won't tell us if he is the one who bought it from Gore," Capt. Richard Lewis said.
Lewis said the whole mess started with Ms. Wiggs.
"The girl stole the checks and when that crime came to light, her mother kicked her out. She ran to her boyfriend's house, and they ended up camping in the woods," Lewis said.
It is unclear at this time if the check cashing and ATV crimes cross over to include both Gore and Ms. Wiggs, he added.
Gore signed at least one of the checks, investigators said. But the sheriff's office has not yet been able to catch up with Gore to question or to arrest him.
Deputies with the sheriff's office warrant squad were able to locate Ms. Wiggs Wednesday after she eluded capture by spending several weeks by camping out with Gore in the woods behind his house.
"There are a lot of woods in that area," Maj. Tom Effler said.
The search for Gore continues. The only photograph of Gore authorities currently have is from 2008 and might not accurately depict how he looks today.
Anyone with information regarding Gore's whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255, or text tips to 919-222-4230. Callers can remain anonymous and information leading to a felony arrest is eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
