MOUNT OLIVE -- Sherry Lee and Shelby Hargrove have been friends for nearly 30 years.

They also work well together, opening their new business a little more than a month ago on North Breazeale Avenue.

Sassy Stitches-N-Such Inc., located at 608 N. Breazeale Ave., operated out of Mrs. Hargrove's home in Duplin County for more than two years, but the two friends were looking for a change.

"We wanted a bigger place," Mrs. Lee said. "We wanted a storefront, and we heard from someone that the girl that used to be here was interested in selling, so we came and talked to her and looked at her machinery.

"That is what we bought. We bought the machinery and supplies and some inventory."

They offer up monogramming services, embroidery, heat press, screen printing, signs and personalized vinyl stickers.

They originally wanted a storefront in Faison or Calypso because the areas offered no monogramming and embroidery services, but when they found out that Jennifer's Monogramming and More was selling out, they simply could not pass up the opportunity.

Mrs. Hargrove said they wanted to really have Sassy Stitches-N-Such Inc. to stand out from the last business that was run in the same building because much of the same services would be provided.

"We did a lot of cleaning and moving around so that people will know that it is a new business -- that someone new is here," Mrs. Hargrove said.

And though they were able to pick up some of their predecessor's clients, they are also shooting for bigger.

"The first feather in our hat -- we are hoping, and it looks like it may happen -- is getting the University (of Mount Olive's) stuff," Mrs. Lee said.

"Along with some other businesses around the area that we are hoping to get. The college has done business here in the past," Mrs. Hargrove said.

They hope to grow Sassy Stitches-N-Such into a store that offers rain coats and more of a variety of boots along with the children's clothing, boots and bags that they already offer.

Sassy Stitches-N-Such is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about what the new business provides, call 919-658-6105 or email sassystitchesandsuch@hotmail.com.

The business also displays some of its stitching and printing work on Facebook and Instagram.
