Movies by the beach are back again this year.
Cliffs of the Neuse State Park will have movies on the big screen at its lake beach the first and third Friday of each month starting at 8:30 p.m. or whenever it's dark enough to start it.
The movies will start in June and run through August.
"The concession stand will remain open during each movie," said ranger Autumn Kahl. "We will be selling pizza, burgers, cookies, chips, ice cream and drinks."
Or you may take your own movie snacks. But coolers and glass are not allowed on the beach.
"On movie nights, the swim lake will also stay open an extra hour until 8 p.m. for swimmers who want to watch the movie," Ms. Kahl said. "It gives everybody about half an hour to come out of the water, get dressed and stay for the movie."
"We are hoping to reach a wider audience this year by not limiting it to just animated features like we have in the past. There will be movies for young kids and movies for adults, but they all have family themes. And there will also be two surprise ranger choices this year."
All of the movies are free. Don't forget to take blankets or lawn chairs.
Here's a schedule of the movies:
* June 5 -- 'The Hunger Games'
* June 19 -- 'Wild America'
* July 3 -- Ranger's choice
* July 17 -- 'The Lorax'
* Aug. 7 -- Ranger's choice
* Aug. 21 -- 'Creature From the Black Lagoon'
