The City of Goldsboro Public Works Department will begin its annual uni-directional water line flushing program on Sunday, May 17, at 10 p.m.
Crews will be flushing lines from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., daily, except on Fridays and Saturdays. The flushing program is expected to last approximately six weeks, through June 28, unless we experience inclement weather or extremely cold temperatures.
Residents may experience some discolored water during this process. If discolored water is experienced, residents should run their cold water for a short period to clear any discolored water that may be in their plumbing.
Uni-directional water line flushing is to clean out pipes and improve water quality, removing any buildup of sediment or debris in the piping system.
This type of flushing works by forcing water to flow through the pipes at a much higher rate than normal, isolating certain sections of piping throughout the city to clean them one at a time.
If this does not resolve the problem, or if residents have any other questions or concerns, they should contact the Public Works Department at 919-734-8674, during normal business hours from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Fridays.
