Wayne County will have a Household Hazardous Waste and Pesticide Disposal Collection Day Saturday, May 16 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the county landfill (Dudley convenience site).

County residents can bring unwanted and old pesticides that they would like to dispose in a safe manner.

Many other items will be accepted at the event including: Solvents, kitchen cleaners, paint/paint thinner, gasoline, lacquer, kerosene, paint stripper, bathroom cleaners, aerosol/spray cans, spot removers, mercury debris, oven cleaners, upholstery cleaners, drain cleaners, tile cleaners, herbicides, batteries, brake fluid, pesticides, rat poison, powder cleansers, degreasers, metal polish, pool chemicals, mothballs, wood preservative, florescent bulbs.

"There is no charge, a service the county provides," said Kevin Johnson, Wayne County Extension Director. "We want to make sure the products are disposed of properly.

"The pesticide disposal day is for farmers, homeowners, or ag businesses ... anyone who wants to get rid of something out of date or unwanted."
