Pikeville man accidentally shoots himself

A Pikeville man accidentally shot himself in the left hand while cleaning his gun Wednesday, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
The incident took place at 2:15 p.m.
According to the report, Trevor Kent Laskaris, 38, 131 Artis Road, shot himself while cleaning his Smith and Wesson 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.
Laskaris, whose employer is listed on the report as the U.S. Air Force, told deputies he thought the weapon was unloaded when he pulled back the slide and depressed the trigger. A round discharged, striking Laskaris in the left hand.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office and Wayne County EMS responded. Laskaris was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
