Officers and emergency personnel load a victim into the ambulance after a shooting this morning at Beestown Grocery on Slocumb Street.
Goldsboro police have not yet released the name of a man shot outside Beestown Grocery, 901 S. Slocumb St., at about 9 a.m. today.
The shooting took place outside the store near the intersection of Wilmington Avenue and South Slocumb Street. Investigators taped off the area and recovered at least one shell casing from the rain-soaked roadway.
A crowd gathered across the street and watched as Wayne County EMS brought the victim out of the store on a stretcher. He was lying on his side and was not wearing a shirt.
No one in the crowd would say if they witnessed the shooting.
"We don't do no snitching," one of the men said.
Capt. Trey Ball said he did not believe the shooting took place inside the store.
"I think he went in the store after he was shot," he said.
A man taken into custody at the scene had nothing to do with the shooting, Ball said. The man, handcuffed and placed in a patrol car, had an outstanding warrant for assault on a female.
Investigators are continuing to comb the scene for evidence.
