Kenneth Stancil III is led by Goldsboro and Wayne County law enforcement officers from the parking lot to the Wayne County Courthouse shortly before 4:30 p.m. this afternoon.

Kenneth Stancil III, who has already confessed to killing Wayne Community College employee Ron Lane on Monday morning on the college's campus, has been extradited from Florida and is making a first appearance this afternoon in Wayne County Court. Courthouse officials confirmed that Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Arnold Jones will preside over Stancil's first appearance at 4:30 p.m. Stancil arrived under guard shortly before his appearance. Security at the courthouse was heavy, with officers at every exit. Stancil entered the courtroom surrounded by guards and Judge Jones began to explain the charges against him. Stancil uttered an expletive and kicked over a table before sheriff's deputies removed him from the courtroom. After about 15 minutes, he was led back into the courtroom, where his demeanor was calmer and he asked for a court-appointed attorney.
