Frank Matthews, McAlister's general manager, smiles as he serves the restaurant's first plate of food to a VIP guest at the restaurant's open house Saturday afternoon.

McAlister's Deli at 431 N. Berkeley Blvd. will open its first store in Goldsboro on Monday, April 13.

Construction on the location began in early January in the building shell of what was formerly a Schlotsky's Deli.

In celebration of the new location, McAlister's is inviting the community to a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m.

A portion of all sales that day will be donated to the Partnership for Children of Wayne County.

During the first week the restaurant is open, from April 13-17, one customer every hour will be randomly chosen to receive a $25 gift card with their purchase.

"We have established a strong presence in North Carolina, with stores stretching across the state," said Yaron Goldman, Chief Executive Officer of Southern Deli Holdings, LLC. "The city of Goldsboro presented a great opportunity for our brand to grow and serve a robust community of people and businesses in the area."

The restaurant is owned by Southern Deli Holdings LLC, which currently owns and operates more than 50 McAlister's locations in the United States. The new Goldsboro location will offer a pick-up window, outdoor patio and an all-new store design that will be revealed on the opening day.

The restaurant offers sandwiches, soups, potatoes, salads and desserts. The building was gutted and the inside rebuilt to fit the specifications of McAlister's design team.

Restaurant hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

McAlister's was founded in 1989 in Oxford, Miss., inside a gas station, and has since expanded throughout the United States.

It is the third restaurant to open in Goldsboro since Jan. 2014, following Texas Roadhouse and Ed's Southern Food and Spirits, which opened in June and October, respectively.
