North Drive Elementary teacher and author Gregory Brown was recently a guest author at the North Carolina Reading Association Conference, held in Raleigh.
The K-4 literacy coach had the opportunity to interact and share reading strategies with educators from across the state. He also had a book signing session.
"I signed over 100 of my books for teachers from all over North Carolina, and I was able to connect with some very passionate educators in the session I attended," he said. "Even though I have been flown as far away as California to do this type of promotion, this is the first time that my home state is recognizing me as a North Carolina author.
This is a very big deal for this Wayne County teacher."
The veteran educator, and 2009 Wayne County Public Schools' Teacher of the Year, said he also took advantage of the opportunity to attend sessions at the conference and learn more about the latest research and strategies for teaching reading.
"This is my love," he said.
"This is what I do each day. I always look forward to bringing back new ideas to share with the staff at North Drive School and all of Wayne County," he said.
"I'm just a country boy from Pikeville, but I'm using my educational experience and talents to be a 21st Century 'global' kind of teacher. I'm very proud of that."
Brown has spent 20 of his 25 years in education at North Drive.
Since 2007 he has had seven leveled reading books/Reader's Theater titles published for children, including his current two titles for Hameray Publishing Group, "The Friendship Shell" and "Santa All Year."
