Wayne County Public Schools will hold a Title I Parent Seminar on Thursday, March 19, at Bethel Church at 2308 N. William St.
The seminar will begin at 8:30 a.m. Julia Cook will be the guest speaker for the event. Mrs. Cook is a former guidance counselor and teacher. She will present two sessions. The first session is titled, "Unlearning Helplessness-Motivating the Underachiever." In this interactive session, Mrs. Cook will explore the characteristics and causes of underachieving and present effective solutions that can reverse this problem. The second session is titled, "Survival Kit," which will give parents tips for how to navigate each day successfully.
"It is vital that parents stay engaged in their child's learning. The Title I Parent Seminar will be a fun, free, and educational opportunity that gives parents new and innovative strategies to motivate their child to be successful in the classroom and in life," said Tomekia Hutchins, the school systems Title I parent facilitator.
Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Transportation, translators and child care is available on request. Parents planning to attend need to RSVP by calling 919-736-5073 or 919-705-6178.
