Goldsboro police are working to determine whether two early Saturday morning shootings are connected -- a shootout in the parking lot of a local strip club during which at least 10 shots were fired and another that resulted in a vehicle chase and several more shots being fired.
According to the police report, multiple subjects were shooting at each other in the parking lots of Sid's Showgirls, 1931 N. William St., and a nearby business, Brian's Transmission, 1907 N. William St.
The shootout took place at 2 a.m.
Of the bullets located at the scene, two struck a vehicle and eight hit Brian's Transmission. Five bullets hit the north side of the building and three bullets struck the south side. No one was inside the business at the time of the shooting.
Capt. Dwayne Dean of the Goldsboro Police Department said the case has been assigned to an investigator and attempts are being made to obtain video footage from security cameras.
Dean said the possibility is being explored that this shooting might be connected to a second shooting, which left a Goldsboro woman injured and ended in a crash outside Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Rhonda Stokes, 31, was shot in the arm while sitting in her car at Olivia Lane near Hugh Street at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a police report said.
According to the report, Marcus McClean, age not listed, then came over to her car to see what was wrong with her.
Upon seeing she was shot, McClean hopped in the car to drive Ms. Stokes to the hospital.
McClean told police that a dark gray or blue vehicle began to follow. He said he vehicle's occupants continued to shoot at Ms. Stokes' car as he drove from the south side to Wayne Memorial Drive.
According to the report, Ms. Stokes said she did not remember what happened after she was shot. She said she did remember being shot either from the back or from the side.
McClean and Ms. Stokes crashed as they arrived at the entrance to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Two bulletholes were found in the back of the vehicle, one through the trunk and one in the right side.
Off-duty Goldsboro police officers working at the Waffle House on Wayne Memorial Drive said they only saw the victim's vehicle and they did not see anyone following them, the report said.
Capt. Dwayne Dean of the Goldsboro Police Department said he will rely on what his officers tell him.
"I trust what the officers saw, so we will investigate it accordingly," he said.
He also said there has been no determination yet as to whether the two shootings are connected.
