While a Goldsboro woman was inside the Beestown convenience store at 905 S. Slocumb St. Tuesday, two armed men robbed her son and his friend as they sat outside in a parked car.
The robbery took place at 6:30 p.m. Suspects used a semi-automatic pistol designed to look and function like an AK-47.
The men simply approached the 2008 Ford Crown Victoria and robbed the two passengers, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Rosemary Ann Coley said her son Calvin Coley, 19, and his friend Rakeeme Hatcher, 18, were in the vehicle and the only thing reported stolen was the firearm.
The weapon, a Century PAP M92 AK Pistol, which fires a 7.62 caliber bullet, is described as black with a brown handle. It is valued at $699.
Capt. Dwayne Dean said an investigator has been assigned to the case.
"It's concerning that a firearm was stolen during this incident and is now on the street," he said.
