A Goldsboro man is recovering from minor injuries to his legs caused when Goldsboro Police Department K-9 Officer Suzie ran him down Tuesday.
The suspect was allegedly attempting to force his way into his girlfriend's residence and threatening to kill her.
Kenneth Dekeyser, 47, 609 Wilmington Ave., is charged with assault on a female, assault inflicting serious injury, communicating threats, injury to personal property, injury to real property and resisting. He is being held in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
According to police reports, Dekeyser argued earlier in the evening with his girlfriend Mattenet Bass, 46, and the fight became physical. Dekeyser broke the victim's cell phone, punched her, grabbed her and threatened to kill her, the report said.
After he left, Ms. Bass secured warrants against Dekeyser for assault on a female, but Dekeyser returned later that night.
At 9:28 p.m., D-Shift patrol officers including Officer Jason Erkes and K-9 Suzie responded to Ms. Bass' residence as Dekeyser was trying to kick in her door and again saying he was going to kill her.
As police arrived, Dekeyser tried to run but was chased down by Suzie and bitten on both legs.
"He committed the first assault and then returned back in an attempt to break into the residence," Acting Maj. Dwayne Dean said via email.
He said Dekeyser was treated on scene by Wayne County EMS and then transported to jail.
