Forty former queens coming to pageant

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Miss Aycock pageant, with the event scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. in the old gym at Charles B. Aycock High School.
Six contestants are competing for the 2015 crown.
Jill Suggs Howell, a former Miss Aycock who now teaches at the school, said in commemoration of the golden anniversary, former queens have been invited to attend. She said Thursday that she has received affirmative responses from 40 who are planning to be there.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
The following students are participating this year:
* Alexis Brown, 17, daughter of Carol Brown and Joe Brown.
Alexis plans to attend Wayne Community College and pursue a degree in medical transcription. She will perform a lyrical dance to "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran. She is a member of National Honor Society, Health Occupational Students of America, Science Club, Key Club and the Fremont Junior Rescue Squad. She will perform a lyrical dance to "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran.
* Carlie Nicole Carter, 17, daughter of Burl and Lisa Carter.
Carlie will be singing "So Small" made popular by Carrie Underwood. A member of the English, math and science clubs and the National Honor Society, she is an active member of United in Christ Church, editor of the yearbook and secretary of the senior class.
* Lauren Nicolle Johnson, 17, daughter or Greg and Phyllis Johnson.
Lauren will attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, majoring in biology and pursuing a career in physical therapy. She will perform a tap dance to "This Cat is On A Hot Tin Roof" by the Brian Setzer Orchestra. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Aycock Youth Council, Aycock Ambassadors, DECA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
* Kristin Limbaugh, 18, daughter of Mike and Betty Jean Limbaugh.
Kristin has been accepted into the dance program at East Carolina University and plans to major in dance education and special education. For her talent, she will perform a pointe dance that she choreographed herself to "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend" by the Glee cast. A member of DECA, she was inducted in the National Honor Society and has been a class officer and member of homecoming court.
* Hannah Stephens, 17, daughter of Michael and Robin Stephens.
Hannah plans to pursue a degree in marine biology. She will dance for her talent. She has been part of the science club, FCCLA, DECA and Dance for Christ.
* Taylor Tatum, 17, daughter of Edward and Stacey Tatum.
Taylor will be attending Winston-Salem State University to pursue a degree in business economics. She will perform the song, "Colors of the Wind" by Judy Kuhn. She has been a member of JROTC, the drama club, track team and captain of the Flag Guard team.
