Jury selection is set to begin in Wayne County Superior Court Monday in the case of the former Goldsboro Police Department captain charged in 2014 with statutory rape.
The abuse allegedly occurred more than 12 years ago.
Chad E. Calloway, 44, of 205 Graces Farm Road in LaGrange, is charged with statutory rape and sexual offense against a victim under the age of 16, indecent liberties with a child and sex offense by a person in a parental role.
The rape was investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation, but it was the local police department's own internal investigation that led to Calloway's termination.
Calloway was indicted in April 2014 after he was fired from the police department for what Goldsboro police Chief Jeff Stewart called "detrimental personal conduct."
Calloway served on the police force for 19 years and was promoted to captain of the Patrol Division in 2010.
According to court documents, the alleged abuse took place over a period of time between Jan. 1, 1999, and Dec. 31, 2002.
