What began as a simple fender bender at the intersection of Royall and North Jefferson avenues Wednesday turned into a search for a hit-and-run suspect.
A quick-witted witness who snapped a timely photo with her cell phone camera helped lead police to the suspect, Goldsboro police said.
Quinton Deonte Atkinson, 28, 910 S. Madison Ave., is charged with hit and run and driving with a revoked license, according to a police report. He also had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court. Atkinson was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $1,750 secured bond.
According to the wreck report, the incident took place at 11 a.m.
Atkinson struck another driver from behind and left the scene before trading information with the person, the report said.
As Atkinson fled, a witness took out her cell phone and took a photo of his license plate. The photo also confirmed the make and model of the vehicle police were looking for.
Police searching in the area of Jefferson Court located the vehicle outside Apartment 20 at 1100 N. Jefferson Ave.
Police found Atkinson and placed him in custody without incident. The estimated damage to the victim's vehicle is listed on the report at $1,000. The damage to Atkinson's vehicle is listed at $2,500.
