A late night fire destroyed a storage shed behind a business off North William Street Monday night.
The Goldsboro Fire Department responded to a call of a structure fire in the 1500 block of North William Street and found the entire block shrouded in heavy smoke.
"It was hard to see. It took us a minute to find it," Acting Assistant Fire Chief Capt. John Gillis said.
The fire was in an outbuilding behind the business at 1218 N. William St. The sign out front said Goldwayne Motors, and the parking lot was filled with cars. But Gillis said the owner listed for the location was actually a Page Distributing Co. Inc., based out of Winston-Salem.
The call came in at 11:04 p.m., and by 11:23 the fire had been knocked down.
Engines 1, 2 and 3 responded along with Ladder 1.
Firefighters tore apart the shed to get at the fire and to ventilate the structure, using water and then foam to extinguish the blaze and to make sure it stayed out.
Firefighters remained on scene until 12:20 a.m., according to the fire report. The estimated financial loss is listed in the report at $2,000.
